How much rain?

Hi,
I notice everyone going on about the water resistance of their boots.
How much rain are we talking about here, and how far are you going in it? I
find that unless it is a downpour, I can ride in my Heine Gericke Concord
leather jacket and gloves, and blue jeans and stay dry. I keep the balls of
my feet on the pegs and I am wearing Skechers Bully boots ($60) which aren't
even MC boots. My Skechers look like new after a year of use and are very
comfortable after break in. Unfortunately, my shifter rubber needs replacing
as it is worn out from the lugged soles. I rode all night in on and off rain
on a recent trip and my feet were dry and comfortable. Of course this was on
the freeway at speeds mostly of 70-80. The fairing on the ST makes a nice
envelope with the tall Triumph windshield. I don't put on my rain gear
unless it looks like heavy rain. I just tuck in. If it's going to rain
heavily and I will be in stop and go driving, I use the car (aside from MC
trips, of course). I find it difficult to justify $150+ for MC boots (unless
you are out scratching the pegs on a regular basis), which usually look
goofy unless you are wearing leathers. I use Nor-V-Gen oil on my boots (and
gloves) to keep them water resistant.
I also notice many people are using Aerostich riding suits and live in
warmer climes. I am up in Minnesota where they make them (of course, if I
lived in Duluth, I could really appreciate their merit) and they seem like
overkill. I ride in temps down to freezing in my blue jeans and the heat
from under the fairing will keep me fairly comfortable as long as it is not
too windy. If I ride 25 miles or more in cold weather, I wear overpants or
my leathers. I do see how heated grips might be nice, but I don't have
them (my bro does). By the way, I commute to work after the sun goes down
and return home before the sun comes up this time of year. The temps drop
off very fast up here when the sun is down.
Ciao,
Bob 99 red ST
