Folks,
Just finished reading the February 2000(!!!) issue of Sport Rider, =
which contains an excellent comparison test of the usual suspects: BMW =
R1100S, Ducati ST4, Honda VFR800FI, and the Triumph Sprint ST. Once =
again, the ST came out on top.
Of 10 rating categories, the ST was rated best in 2 (engine power =
delivery, engine smoothness); tied for first in 7 others; and was rated =
second in just one category (suspension).
The testers said that the handling improved significantly by increasing =
the preload (front: 1 line showing; rear: preload, 10 clicks out; =
rebound damping, .5 turns out), but suggested that stiffer front =
springs were in order.
Finally, they fit all four test bikes with Dunlop D205 High Performance =
Street Radials and stated that the Triumph's handling benefited the most =
from this tire upgrade.
The same issue of Sport Rider also has an excellent tire comparison test =
of 24 performance sport tires. Interestingly, one of the top-rated =
tires was the Avon Azaro, which I haven't seen mentioned in tire =
discussions on this list.
