I have fork-mounted PIAAs on my ST, fitted by the previous owner (Howlin'
Dawg) They're mounted on the front mudguard bolts.
They're VERY effective. As they came with the bike I can't really comment on
the $$$ angle. Durability - no problems yet...
My commute is in city traffic so I have to be careful how long I use the
lights to avoid battery drain. I only use them when filtering in very heavy
traffic, or when I know the bike will be maintaining >3k rpm with no stops at
traffic lights etc. I have the headlight relay modification so I have two dip
beams (don't non-EU bikes have this as standard?) which increases the battery
drain. The current used by the heated grips is small.
Depending on how you want to use the PIAAs (visibility aid in daytime, or
night use on unlit roads) you will want the beam higher or lower. I do very
little riding on unlit roads, so the beam is high enough to get attention
without dazzling people.

Heated grips are nice, especially for keeping the chill away on spring/autumn
days when you won't be wearing all your winter gear.
You may want to change or modify the seat (mine came with a Corbin)
Windscreens are a popular mod, but I like the stock one.
Air horns are good too... I've got two Stebels.
Power socket if you don't have one (not sure if it was an option on earlier
STs ?)
