Patti,
A fully charged battery should read at least 12.6v. Chances are your
extended idling in traffic didn't help since the engine has to be
above ~2000 rpm to charge the battery. Below that, the draw of the
ign, fuel pump, lights etc. exceed the alternator's output. To
determine the rpm threshold, put a meter across the battery and slowly
raise rpm until the voltage goes up above 13v. If you have a "smart"
charger available, suggest you put it on the battery at least over
night and then see how she starts. Good luck!
