G'day - frm Harry / Sydeny - OZ.
I saw Rod's mail - seems his bike may have a build date close to mine
( my vin is SMTTF650XH2 144150 ) This was in the original re-call range
for the rear axle bearing re-fit, I also never received the recall.
Rod if you get this copy and yr bike is in the re-call range, and has
not been fixed yet - get it done real quick, my original one lasted
about 16,000 klm - about 9600 miles - if you've done near or more than
that, your living on borrowed time.. Rear wheel seizing at speed is no
fun, no matter how good a rider you are..

One person's experience. As a counterpoint I put 32,000 miles on one of
these suspect bearings. When it did get replaced, it didn't show any sign
of impending failure. From what I recall, there have been a grand total of
4 or 5 rear wheel bearing failures reported here. 2 of them happened to
poor Harry here. The rest on pre-2002 machines.
