[ST] ST Oil pan/Engine

I am in the process of an engine swap on my 00 ST. As to prevent down time, I purchased a used ST engine from an 01 off ebay. I know the transmission is in hirrable shape on my 00, so before installing the engine in the bike, I am servicing and inspecting the engine top to bottom before hand. I pulled the oil pan off today, and to my surprise, it had a sealant sealing the pan to block. The book I have states for up to 00, there is supposed to be a gasket. This engine is from an 01, so I wanted to verify if anyone knows, if they changed it to a sealant as the Japanese manufacturers do. The good news is the mains are well within spec., the gears' dogs are still completely square, and there was a total of maybe five nearly invisable pieces of metal in the pan. Leak down showed a little less than 3% on 1 and 3, and 2% on 2. If anyone can help me, and let me know anything that maybe help things a bit (ie, a stiffer detent spring, oiling conversion, anything) that will help in the
long
run, it will be much appreciated.
