Garry,
I've been using Simple Green for most gunk and grime removal. Spray it on,
let it soak for a minute and wash it off thoroughly. Works well for most
road grime, oil soaked stains and chain lube. For stubborn tar I use WD40
or kerosene on a rag, then wash thoroughly. For soap, I use one of many
commercially available car wash products that work well and a good quality
carnuba paste wax. I haven't had any problems with the paint, aluminum,
glass, plastic or other bits on the bike with any of these products.
Dan.
