RE: [ST] Problem bike - Not mine this time :)

All this discussion of an "out-of-gas" experience and he wants an
electrical problem? Give it a can of Techron and try cleaning the
injectors manually if that doesn't work. If you have to take off the
tank, spy out the plugs.

Air leaks are always a possibility. Does it idle too high? Check the
airbox, hoses, connections and filter.

'Course, here in Fellsmere, they would just sacrifice a goat.

A friend of mine is trying to get an ST running properly. This is what
he sent me.

The bike starts up (not
great but it starts and has always not instantly started up). The idle
is a bit rough but then makes you think it's okay. This is all in
neutral. Revving it creates hesitation and it sounds like it's just
about out of gas. It reves very rough (more at lower RPMs) and kinda
choaks. The Tach simply supports what I can hear it doing. The only
other time I've seen this almost exact same thing was on Vacek's
blackbird when he had connected the vacuum hose to the valve that's
supposed to be open to the atmosphere. But that was on a carbed bike and
basically generated a state of out of gas-ness. The gas itself looks
good and is not water. Those hoses look good and are all connected
correctly. The fuel pump makes its little noises correctly. The problem
first happened on a normal road. Bike was moving just fine then died (as
if out of gas).

My guess was that one of the ignition coils died but reading this again
I am not so sure. Shorted ignition wire?
