Dead Trumpet
Hi Gang,
Paul Reyes has been helping off line, and I'd like to see if any one else
can help me trouble shoot.
Here's the problem ---essentially the bike just died after 2 weeks of
straight riding on a cross country trip. Pulled over to look at a map,
shut it off and it wouldn't start back up.
Now its back home, torn down, cleaned, etc. ---- I've done a number of
diagnostics, having just learned to use a multimeter (my command of
electrical and electronics is very limited).
The battery was tested and found the be bad so I replaced it. NO HELP
I've checked the kill switch, starter switch, clutch switch, and side stand
switch --- all of them give a full scale reading on the meter indicating a
closed circuit. The cutout switch for the lights works when I press the
starter switch, but there is absolutely no movement of the starter
motor. The full pump comes on when the ignition is turned on (also part of
the starter circuitry).
I've tried testing the starter solenoid, but not sure I'm doing it
correctly. With the meter set on 50 DC, I get a deflection equal to the
deflection when the leads are placed on the battery.
I've checked all of the fuses.
Before having to give up and take it to the Triumph dealer, I'd appreciate
any input (including specifics of how to test for it). It seems as though
it has to be something simple that I'm overlooking. The bike ran
perfectly. No indications that it was going to stop. I've only got
12,000 miles on it and never had any problems.
Any help would be appreciated.
