Ok, you're paranoid (hey you told me too...)
Actually you are correct in that normally you would not use an english on a
metric as you run the risk of stripping. However there are certain cases
where an english socket is almost exactly the same as a metric socket when
doing a conversion.
Lucky for use, this is one of those cases in which the two vary by only
.0015" (pretty F$$#%g small)
46mm = 1.8110 inches
1 13/16= 1.8125 inches
For comparison, 47mm = 1.85039 inches - a difference of 4/100" - makes the
difference of 1.5/1,000" look pretty insignificant...
