OK, I read everything everybody wrote. Stiff boots are right out, and
I'm not even trying to upshift before 5-6K. (Does anyone *really*
upshift at 3500? Aiyah!)
On my short ride home from the office tonight, I tried to kick it into
second. No dice. Then I tried preloading the shift lever before I
grabbed the clutch, and it went right up. After the next light, I
tried it without preloading it, and it wouldn't go. Then I tried it
without the clutch, and it shifted perfectly.
After the next light, I preloaded it before grabbing the clutch, and it
popped smoothly into second. At the light after that, it wouldn't go
into second when I tried to shift normally.
Nine stoplights, two stopsigns, and one mile later, it still wouldn't
go into second unless I preloaded the shift lever first, but shifted
perfectly if I did.
Ding ding ding, we have a winner.
