On Saturday, Just as I pulled into the driveway, I heard this awful
grating sound. I usually pull up near the garage door on a mound, open
the door with the remote, shut the bike off, then coast down the hill ,
and back the bike into the garage. The awful grating sound was coming
from the rear brake, which is how I hold the bike in position while
opening the garage door.
I was shocked. The dealer had replaced the rear pads at my 6K service.
Now, with just 10.5K (miles) on the clock, I was down to metal???
I called around, and no one had pads for the ST except the closest
Triumph dealer, 40 miles away. When I was talking to the owner, he
advised me to drop the brake pedal down, that I must de riding it, even
though I'm not aware of it. It did look like the inner portion of the
disk has been heated, (slightly brown in color). The reason I was so
shocked is since they replaced the rears, I HARDLY EVER use the rear
brake. The dealer says he has seen this quite Triumphs. So I have
replaced the rears AGAIN! Aaarrrgghhh! While I was at it, I checked the
fronts (which by the way is ridiculously easy). Pull the pin, lift out
the spring and they come right out. They are in great shape, and I have
been using the brakes very hard lately on Mines Road and vicinity.
So I am concluding at this point that the dealer may have a point, and
it may help answer similar questions on the list. Hope this helps.
