Oiling a Chain, Best Way?

Oh cr*p, I've got a bike w/ a chain! I'd gotten used to shaft drive and to tell the truth I never was very good at doing the chain oil
thing on my F650 or M900. Please help me, I need advice for the chain ignorant. What's the best way to oil your chain? I've got one of
those things that has a lube in in a sprain can that attaches to a hose, that attaches to a little box that you put on the chain, but
honestly I sold the Duc before I ever used it. Remember also that I'm probably the most mechanically challenged person you'll ever meet.
I can change the oil and filter and remove my wheels, but that's about it.
Thanks,
David Tomlinson in Malakoff, TX
