David,
I have discovered a simple, yet effective, method for closing the
unsightly gap between the fairing and frame rails. When visiting
relatives, simply allow your uncle to sit on your bike whilst parked
on a gravel driveway. If said uncle is suitably inept the resulting
impact between driveway and fairing will be sufficient to close the
gap to a perfect interference fit. As a bonus you will also obtain a
delightfully subtle wavey custom paint effect where the gravel gently
caresses the curvaceous lines of the body work. :(
NOTE: This method works best on machines less than two days old!
Hope this helps.
Martin

I am also keeping an eye out for something suitable (maybe some form of weather
stripping) to close the gap between the top of the fairing and the frame
rails...any ideas?
