Dunno?  The cutting and impact removal destroyed any possible evidence.  Perhaps in the process of taking off the wheel to change gearing/chain/tires at the track, some debris found it's way in?  

Or maybe the outer threads got buggered from my high side two years ago and and we didn't notice it.  The wheel was never removed since then.  It was geared for the track I rode after the accident and the tires were still good so we had no reason to remove it then.

Sorry I don't have a definite answer.

So why was it stuck?

Were the threads corroded?

Was it damaged? Cross threaded?
