I'm not sure about the RS, but I pushed my luck a couple of times on my '99 
ST. 

I knew I could get  40kms on reserve, city driving. The first time, it ran 
out at 41kms. A short one kilometre push and I was away again.

The second time I got 45kms to dead empty, all according to the trip meter.
