Brett,
This is very interesting to me. I have a 00 Sprint ST.
I get a consistent 50 miles per gallon(US). I pretty much get the
same mileage if I'm commuting or riding long distance.
If I converted that right that is 80.5 Km per gallon(US) or 21.24 km per
liter.
I typically get 236 miles (379 K) before the low fuel light comes
on. At this point I have about .6-.8 gal left in the tank. I have never
ran it out of gas but I usually figure I can go 265 miles on 1 tank (5.5
gal(US)-21 Liters) of gas. I ride a lot with a guy who has a R1100 RS
BMW and he can usually go 350 miles on a tank. I'm not sure what his
tank capacity is though. But I always have to stop for gas first. He
also has an R1 Yamaha and when he is riding it, he has to stop first.
I used to have 2000 Indian Scout with an 1442 cc. V twin engine and a
3.5 gal gas tank. I could only go 120 miles till I was completely out of
gas.
One of the reasons I choose the Triumph was its gas mileage and tank
capacity. I am currently planning a ride from California to Tenn. about
2500 miles (4023K) one way and am planning to do it on 10 tanks of gas.
On the Triumph UK home page it says the tank capacity of the 2006 Sprint
is 5.2 US gal or 20 Liters. So if I did the math right, you are going
250 Kms (155 miles) on about 17-18 liters (4.5-5 gal) (155/5= 31 miles
per gal) (250Km/18L = 13.8 KM per liter).
That 1050 engine is a thirsty puppy.
In addition over here in the states most insurance companies have a
magic mark of 1000 ccs. Their rates take a big jump if you cross that
magic number.
Is most of your riding on the flat or in the mountains?
