I think it's a matter of not just snapping it open fast, but both fast
enough and far enough.  I can power wheelie my '00 RS with the stock 19/43
gearing in 1st gear with just hammering the throttle.

Try getting more throttle open when you hammer it fast.  I think I almost
get to wide open when I slam it.  No bouncing, clutch, or otherwise.  Just
hammering the throttle wide open, PS- colder weather definitly helps.  When
it's cold with low humidity you'll see a 6-10% increase in horsepower maybe
more depending on the air density.

I can't wait for my 17/43 gearing.  Soon as I get my brakes back together :)
