If you adjust the mirrors out a bit, so that you get the inner half of the mirror as a view of your arm, the outer half gives you a pretty good view behind.  I then put some stick-on wedge mirrors on the inner half, with the thick part of the wedge toward the center of the bike, so that I could see my blind spots.
