You don't? I'm assuming it would be easier to do so though? I'm about to
change my rears for the first time so any tips are appreciated...

Wow Mort, that doesn't seem right. My previous bike, a 95 Trophy 3, ate
rear pads up but not at that rate. AFAIK the pads on my ST are OEM and
I'm at about 21k. Hmmm.
