Under the heading of "free-advice-is-worth-every-penny", I recommend that
you take a look at the Chase-Harper 650

I spent a great Saturday a few weeks ago riding up to Santa Barbara to meet
with Ron Harper. After looking at ALL his bags, the 650 was the best one
for me and was the best fit on the ST's tank. The map case is not
permanently mounted. Instead it's a couple of clear plastic sheets that
have material sewn around the perimeter on 3 sides, with one side left open
to allow for insertion of the map. (What a novel concept: a map pouch that
actually allows for the insertion of a map. I love technology!!!) On the
end closet to the steering head is a Velcro strip. This strip is inserted
into into other strips in the bag. On the underside of the pouch, on the
sidese and towards the back, are a couple of plactic hooks. These hooks are
hokked on to the lacing that is on the top of the bag. Very clever. Take a
look at the URL for pictures.

This tankbag comes with two mounting options

Modern sport bike designers want more weight on the front wheel, the result
being shorter, wider gas tanks which allow the rider to sit further forward
on the machine. This fact makes fitting yesterday's tank bags to today's gas
tanks difficult. Chase Harper's new 650 meets this challenge; shorter, wider
and featuring a curved bottom panel, this new bag really FITS the likes of
Yamaha's R1, Honda's RC51 and the Suzuki's GSXR's.

Available in either strap or magnetic mount systems, the 650 includes the
features sportbike riders demand:
   - hidden, internal shoulder straps.
   - removable, reversible map case . . . .
yes, it displays two folds of a AAA map!
   - open-top side pouches for quickie stuff: ear plugs, gas receipts, etc.
   - adjustable elastic top retaining system and top zipper pouch.
   - internal pouch and key clip.
   - large, stiffened internal compartment.

Bruce sez :
"Chase Harper's newly designed 650 tank bag is specifically designed for
sport bikes like the BMW S, RS, & RT, Honda's VFR and RR series, etc. I put
the final prototype through a 3000-mile shakedown and don't think there's a
more versatile bag on the market! And since it's available only on our
web-site, you can't find a better value. "
