[ST] Speedo error.

I'd been wondering about the calibration on the tach recently, and now this
comes along. My '01 ST is getting 80 mph at 5k (BRG, since color matters
where speed is concerned).

I noticed very early that the speedo is ===way=== off, and took some quick
calibration readings with the GPS. I didn't have it mounted at the time, so
only measured at a couple of speeds. The long and short is, true road speed
is very nearly 8 mph per 500 revs in 6th. (Double the tach reading, and
multiply by 8. It also doubles as a quick check on mental acuity. When
simple ciphering becomes difficult, I'm too tired to ride and need to find a
place to rest.)

Oh... never mind. I guess the speed -- 87mph at 5k -- is the speedo reading.
We match almost precisely.

We can talk about speedometer error, then. Mine, and apparently Randy's,
reads a nudge more than 10% high at highway speed. I haven't variance at
lower speeds, even though I now have the eTrex mounted. (More on that in a
subsequent message.)

Mike.
