A Battery Tender is electronically much more sophisticated than almost any
standard 'battery charger'. I believe that the trickle charge provided by
less sophisticated battery chargers will eventually overcharge your battery
because they never actually stop. For this reason most battery chargers are
not intended to be used for long term storage applications. The Battery
Tender cannot overcharge your battery, but on the other hand it is not
intended to deliver high current so it cannot quick-charge a battery. This
is probably just as well because quickcharging shortens battery life. As
has been said earlier, the nicest thing about the Battery Tender is that you
can just plug it in and forget it.
