Wow, there's nothing worse than being an doofus, unless it's being an

Thanks, Eric, that was it.  I never use that thing, but had parked on a 
hill and need to leave the bike in gear, so I killed it with the switch.

Gonna got get FINE-C* tattooed to my forehead now...
