So my friend Blas had to take his T-Bird in for a quick fix and the Matt
the dealer loaned him the Futura demo for an hour or so.
He stopped by the house, and of course I couldn't resist...
The bike is tall and short, relative to the ST; I was on tiptoes (33"
inseam) at stoplights, not helped by the seat, which is wide and square. I
kind of liked the short reach to the bars...
Firing it up gave a nice lumpy idle...the bike had aftermarket cans and a
stock chip, so the injection was iffy. Very abrupt from idle...hard to
smoothly launch the bike. Once launched, it felt a bit stronger than my ST
(factory aftermarket can, current tune), although nothing like a friend's
929, and the lumpy power was kinda cool. But I wondered how long I'd like
it when commuting on the 405 or on a 1200 mile weekend like our last one.
It didn't have that comfortable smoothness. Blas (VFR 800, T-Bird) felt it
was too much as well.
The clutch was light but snatchy (demo bike??), and the mirrors blew. Small
and funny-shaped.
Overall, I think I'm still interested in a twin of some kind, but a lot
less interested in this one after my (admittedly short) ride...but
definitely better than a ST4 in a bunch of ways.
