Fuel Leak problem

I was wondering if those of you who have had fuel leaks, How many of you
had the opportunity to examine the gas tank?  One person recently mention a
depression under the fill hole.  I was thinking, unless there is a
heatshield between the engine and the gas tank, could it be possible that
the engine is melting holes in your tanks.  Am wondering if maybe an
aluminum heatshield would be helpful here if the problem is engine heat is
the culprit....just look at all those melted bellypans, that little 3
cylinder engine does put out some serious heat.
