Rear Brake "Soft"

     Hi Chris,

The rear brakes seem to be inconsistant on the STs.
Some are as you describe. Some, like mine, are excellent.
You should be able to adjust out the free play but my rear brakes are
the best I've had on any bike in so far as they actually can be used
to stop the machine. I'm at a loss to explain this difference.

Could I suggest the following course of action.
1: Adjust out the play at the lever via the threaded rod between the
     lever and master cylinder.
2: Clean the disk thoroughly to remove any oily residue (possibly the
     pads also).
     3: Bleed the brake line.
4: Remove the caliper and check for sticking pistons.

Obviously, with a new machine your dealer should undertake some of
this work but steps one and two should be relatively straight forward.

     HTH,
     Martin

The rear brake seems to have a large amount of travel in it (way more
than the "zero travel" of my Speed Triple rear brake), but seems to
brake as Triumph intended it (i.e. not much, but it wont lock on you).
Does any one else have a "long throw" rear brake?
