If you look closely at the grooves in the tyre, you'll notice a small raised
section within the groove. On the BT-54 I have, they are located approx. 10"
apart. They're quite subtle and difficult to see. Easiest way is to run your
finger through the groove (hmmm...) and you'll feel 'em. When the tyre has
worn down to the top of these wear indicators, the tyre's cactus! Out with
the credit card...
