Around here (TX) from everything thing I have seen installation is
installation, 20-30 bucks of bike and 35-50 on bike. Which scares
me 'cause I can remove and replace the 9r rims in about 10 minutes
total, I 'aint no mechanic.

The dealerships say they don't have the volume to get the discounts,
and the mail order places get sub standard tyres.

On both counts I call BS. Firstly if the dealerships got together
and formed local coops, bingo tyre prices would drop. Secondly,
IMHO, there is no way that a mail order place would knowingly sell
a sub standard tyre with out so much paper work, warnings, orange
tags, phone calls .... The chances of a mail order 180/55/ZR17
going >140 MPH is probably 50% or better. That is my guess, but I
know that I am doing my best to keep up my end of the stats.
Personally I am at 100% :-)

I'm no lawyer, but if Chaparral (*or summat) knowingly sold a sub
standard tyre, and an accident was a result of sed sale, the amount
of exposure held by the mail order place would be high.

In fact I asked the sales person at chaparral when I got my MEz3's,
he laughed and said that there is no way they would sell a defective
tyre, and that all dealerships tell their customers that. But then
again, what else is the guy going to say :-)
