Triumph-branded Veto alarm vs the Scorpio alarm

I tend to buy from specialists: I bought my motorcycle from Triumph
and I bought my alarm from Peak Security, a firm which specialises in
motorcycle security. Their recommendation, over the (non Triumph
branded) Veto and Datatool was the Meta 351a. Among other things the
alarm circuitry in the Meta is resin-potted (it's not in the other two)
and therefore pretty much immune to water; the Meta immobiliser arms
itself automatically but you have to manually set the alarm - handy for
petrol stations, ferries and so on; and last but not least the Meta
remote can be built into your ignition key, so no more fumbling in
pockets for it. When I say "built into" I mean that the fitter cuts the
Triumph plastic off the ignition key and fits the key blade into a
remote sender - slightly more bulky than the original, but much more
handy than a separate device.

I've had no problems in the 11 months and 16,000 miles since it was
fitted (touch wood ;-).

No, installing an alarm and using some other form of security as
well sounds like a very good idea ;-)

In the UK the insurance companies care about immobilisers rather
than alarms, which should give some idea how effective an alarm is, at
least if you're out of earshot.

And presumably, if you know what you're doing, a clean, simple,
plug-out job.... It's kind of a nice idea by Triumph, but how often do
you fit an alarm? I'd much rather have easily-accessible headlight
bulbs than a quick-release alarm.
