Most problems are going to show up in the first two years. Past that it
gets pretty hard to establish what is manufactering defect, normal wear, or
owner abuse.

Extended warranties are often useless, since they are underwritten by third
parties that may not be there when you go to make a claim. The warranties
are often filled with exclusions and enough legal mumbo jumbo to make it
impossible to get a claim.

I worked in a dealership many years ago and we often made more commission
selling the warranty than on the bike itself, so of course they were pushed
by the salespeople.
