Re: beating the odds

John, I know the odds are against riding crash free. However, I've been
riding since 1959, averaging around 12,000 - 15,000 miles a year, and have
never had an accident on the roads. I did have my share of get-offs in my
earlier years when I was doing a lot of "TT" racing, but I guess we're
excluding track riding. I seriously think that one of the things that has
kept me out of trouble is that I have been a photographer for the last 40
years also, and I'm constantly scanning the world around me, as looking for
interesting juxtapositions has always been one of my greatest pleasures
(sounds weird, eh?). I long ago learned how to see a wide scope without
concentrating on one thing, and Ithink that has helped me anticipate
potential dangers. I'm sure a lot of luck has also been a part of this,
too. I know this is probably the stupidest thing I've ever done, telling
you all this, so just to be sure, I'm not going riding today. No sense
tempting fate! Especially on the ST!!

Ride safe, Dave
btw, I hope the annual mileage will increase a lot soon, as I retire from
academia in July. Lots more time to ride!!!
