I seem to be in the minority --- but I didn't think twice about NOT ordering
the panniers.  Once the pannier hardware is on, removing the bags causes the
bike to look pretty ugly IMHO.  I opted for the upset race canister, new
tune, chopped fender, and a great set of Chase Harper soft luggage bags,
with awfully good carrying capacity for cross country work.  The bags come
off in a snap and the bike looks great  (see my "fender chop" modification
that Eric posted on the ST website under 'modifications').
