500 mi service cost and clutch

Ok, my 500 mile service with complete disassembly of the lower and
middle fairing, clutch adjustment, oil, filter, and new left taillight
bulb cost $123.87 at Euro Sport Cycles in Fort Worth. This price also
included a shirt ($19.00) and the carbon fiber tank protector ($28.00)
installed! She was on the elevated ramp for about two hours and I was
shown everything they did. I went with Triumph's 15-50? Mobil non
synthetic oil as I feel the synthetic needs to wait until around
1500-2000 miles for a good and proper break in. I think the price
difference from this to synthetic is about thirty dollars so I would
have still been in and out at around $110.00-120.00!
The dealer service and rider friendly atmosphere is what sold me on
dealing with Tony and Martha in the first place. Maybe it's still paying
off! In addition, Tony told me that he also recommends the switch to
full synthetic at the second change. This saved me some money without
any argument. I was also told that I could change the oil and filter my
self and shown how to do it without removing the fairing by Tony. He
then asked if I wanted him to order me one of the Triumph filter
removers as this one is slightly different than some of the others.
Remember our outstanding dealers!
My opinion on the clutch is that it's fine. I used it a ton during the
MSF advanced class without any problem. I still think that the problem
might be your wrist angling upward. For the low bars I think the clutch
needs to be pivoted downward but it can not because of the safety switch
hitting the bar risers. If the clutch lever was in a parallel line with
your arm-wrist-hand it would be an easier pull for everyone. We always
lined the clutch lever up this way racing our dirt bikes and believe me
my 500cc Husqvarna had a much heavier clutch than the ST.
One last input. Go to any dirt bike dealer and buy yourself a small
metal can of "Dry Slide". This is a thin graphite impregnated fluid. You
remove the cable at the lever where you have the highest point, shake
the can to dispense the graphite, and place a few drops on the cable.
The fluid will wick down the cable in a matter of minutes and lubricate
the cable for it's entire length. The stuff last a long time and after
the fluid evaporates leaves the film on the cable and inner liner. You
can immediately feel the difference. Try it, you'll like it.
