I had the same problem the first day I rode the bike. I removed my wrist
watch the next time I rode and seemed to hav no problem. Have been riding
since with it and have had no problems. Don't think it could have changed
but it is possible clutch springs have relented somewhat. I have been up
shifting without the clutch pretty regularly also and find the gearbox very
agreeable.

I think initial chain stretch is quite common, then it will strech much less
with proper care (I am a WD40 advocate but I'm sure everyone on the list has
an opinion). I think one of the main things is do not over tighten.
